Johan III de Witt
Johan de Witt (born December 11, 1694 in Dordrecht , † May 27, 1751 in Brussels ) was the son of Johan II. De Witt and his wife (and cousin) Wilhelmina de Witt , a daughter of Cornelis de Witt . The Dordrecht family De Witt were one of the oldest patrician families in Holland and played an important role in Dutch politics during the Dutch Golden Age .
After an early place in the year 1701 death of his father Johan de Witt inherited as his eldest son, the manorial rights of Zuid- and Noord-Linschoten , Snelrewaard, Hekendorp and IJsselveere.
In 1714 De Witt finished his law studies at the University of Leiden , in order to take up his work as city judge in Dordrecht the following year. In 1726 De Witt moved to Brussels with his wife Maria Catharina Theresia van Heydenrijck (a daughter of Mr. Pieter Jacob van Heydenrijck - councilor in the High Council of Mechelen - and Maria Joanna van der Steen). He converted to Catholicism and entered the Austrian civil service. De Witt was one of the initiators for the publication of the collected letters of his grandfather Johan de Witt , the important statesman of the Netherlands.
