Johan Martial (born May 30, 1991 in Massy ) is a French football player .

Career

society

Martial grew up in the vicinity of the French capital Paris and started playing soccer with a small club. His younger brother Anthony Martial (* 1995) later also made the leap into professional football. In 2003, at the age of twelve, Johan moved to the youth department of the top club Paris Saint-Germain , but left it again in 2005 and continued his junior career at smaller clubs until he was accepted into the youth team of SC Bastia in 2007. For the Corsican club he made his professional debut when he was substituted on 13 March 2009 in a 1-0 game against HSC Montpellier in the second division . Martial, who was only 17 years old at the time of his debut, subsequently played a few more games and was accepted into the first team in the summer of 2009. The right-footed defender was able to establish himself in the team and played 23 second division games in his first full season as a professional.

In this way he drew the attention of the first division club Stade Brest , who signed Martial on loan for the 2010/11 season. As a result, the player made his first division debut when he was called up on November 7, 2010 in the 1: 3 against OSC Lille over the length of the first half. Although it remained for Martial in the connection with irregular missions, Brest decided to commit him for the following time. For this, an estimated transfer fee of 800,000 euros was due. Those responsible in Brest resorted to a purchase option for this process, which was linked to the loan transaction. The 20-year-old at the time of the engagement was able to fight for a regular place with the first division team in the following time. After two years of first class Martial had to accept relegation to the second division in 2013. In the following period he was plagued by two long-term injuries and therefore missed a large part of the 2013/14 season. Even after that, he did not get his position in the first eleven back.

In the summer of 2016 he moved to the first division promoted ES Troyes AC , but was only a supplementary player and had to accept the direct relegation in 2016.

National team

Around six months after his first game in the second division, Martial, who played for Bastia at the time, was included in the French U-19 team. With a 3-3 draw with Japan, the then 18-year-old made his debut for the team, where he was called up for the full length of the game. He was then regularly taken into account and was also part of the squad for the 2010 U-19 European Championship . In the course of this, he played a game that was his last for the selection.

On November 16, 2010, he played for the French U-20s for the first time in a 1-0 win against Montenegro. After another use in February 2011, he had to wait a year until he came up on February 29, 2012 in a 3-1 win against Finland. This encounter, in the course of which he was able to score a goal, was his last game for a national youth team. Previously, in the summer of 2011, he had to cancel participation in the U-20 World Cup due to an injury.
