Johan Reinhard

Johan Reinhard (born December 13, 1943 in Joliet , Illinois ) is an American anthropologist . He became known through the discovery of several ice mummies from the Inca era in South America .

Johan Reinhard studied anthropology and German studies at the University of Arizona and the University of Vienna , language studies took him to the Goethe Institutes in Bad Aibling and Bad Reichenhall as well as to the Summer Institute of Linguistics in Horsleys Green and Merstham . In January 1974 he received his doctorate at the Institute for Anthropology in Vienna with a thesis Descriptive Analysis of Shamanism and Witchcraft among the Purbia Raji of Southwest Nepal . Today he works for the National Geographic Society and is honorary professor at the Catholic University in Arequipa . Reinhard was awarded the Puma de Oro , the highest archaeological award in Bolivia .

He worked in the high mountains for the discovery and archaeological fieldwork of Inca child victims like Juanita .
