Johan Swinnen (agricultural economist)
Johan FM Swinnen (* 1962 ) is a Belgian agricultural economist . He is professor for development economics at the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven .
Life
Swinnen studied agricultural science at the KU Leuven ( M.Sc. , 1985) and received his doctorate in 1992 from Cornell University . From 1992 to 1997 he was back in Leuven, from 1998 to 2000 he was an advisor to the European Commission on agricultural policy, agricultural trade and Eastern Europe. Since then he has been professor at the KU again . Swinnen was visiting professor at the Facultés universitaires Notre-Dame de la Paix , the Slovak University of Agriculture in Nitra , Cornell University, Stanford University , SciencesPo , the University of Helsinki , Wye College and the Mediterranean Agronomic Institute .
