Johann Adam Knipper the Elder (born February 25, 1746 in Mackweiler ; † August 24, 1811 in Saarbrücken ) was a German architect and builder .

Life

Knipper was born in 1746 as the son of master cooper Johann Ulrich Knipper (1709–1758 / 59). He was married to Margaretha Anna Katharina geb. Hügel (1757–1826) and had 6 children with her, including the Saarbrücken architect Johann Adam Knipper the Younger .

In 1763, Knipper did an apprenticeship as a mason and stone carver in Lorentzen . In February 1784 he took over the construction management of the reconstruction of the old bridge in Saarbrücken, which was badly damaged after ice damage.

Then he was involved in the construction of Ludwigsberg Palace in Saarbrücken. From 1789 to 1790 he was in charge of the renovation work at Dillingen Castle , and in 1790 he was involved in the construction work in his home town of Harskirchen . In 1808 he designed and built the house of the factory owner Philipp Heinrich Leydorf in Ottweiler . Around 1810 he was involved in the expansion of the left wing of the palace in Saarbrücken after a fire.
