Johann Aegidius Rosemann

Johann Aegidius Rosemann , called Klöntrup (born March 30, 1755 in Glane , † April 25, 1830 near Lechterke ) was a German lawyer , linguist and local researcher .

Life

Rosemann attended the Ratsgymnasium in Osnabrück , studied law at the University of Göttingen and was temporarily employed as the secretary of the Imperial Chamberlain von Hammerstein in Gesmold , before he settled as a lawyer in Osnabrück. From 1809 he is no longer listed there in the official register. Presumably he had to give up his position because he belonged to the opposition to French rule. Apparently he settled in Quakenbrück shortly afterwards, where in 1811 he applied in vain for a position as a lawyer.

With the failure of his civil service career, Rosemann worked as a freelance writer, but had an insufficient income, which is why he increasingly fell for alcohol. In addition to numerous legal works and a manual on the rights and customs of the Osnabrück Monastery, he published a Low German-Westphalian dictionary, which mainly refers to the dialect of the Osnabrück region.

On returning from a drink in the pharmacy in Badbergen , where he preferred to stay, Rosemann drowned in a pool of water in 1830.
