Johann Alexandersen

Johann Alexandersen (born March 22, 1861 in Gammelgab ; † January 8, 1936 in Sønderborg ) was a judicial councilor and citizen spokesman in Sønderborg.

Johann Alexandersen was the son of a court owner of the same name (1833-1892) and his wife Anna Maria, née Wolf (1839-1877). The family's ancestors had lived as farmers on Broacker for a long time.

Alexandersen attended a village school and from 1874 to 1882 the old grammar school in Flensburg . He then studied law at universities in Tübingen , Leipzig and Kiel . From 1885 he worked as a trainee lawyer and in 1890 switched to an assessor position. From 1890 to 1899 he worked as a lawyer in Leck . He then took over a renowned practice in Sønderborg from Justizrat Grimm.

In addition to his work as a lawyer, Alexandersen was involved in community life in the city and district of Sønderborg, where he quickly gained importance. From 1902 to 1920 he served as citizen spokesman and represented Sønderborg in the district council. After Northern Schleswig came to Denmark, he took over the speaking of the German parliamentary group in the Sonderburger city council. He was involved in the main board of the Schleswig voters' association and on the supervisory board of the Sonderburger Zeitung . From 1929 he was also a member of the supervisory board of the Nordschleswigsche Zeitung. In addition, he took over the chairmanship of the German Library Association.

Alexandersen, who was also respected by the Danish population, died unmarried in Sønderborg in 1936. He left a large fortune that he bequeathed to foundations in Broacker and the German citizens' association in Sønderborg.
