Johann Andreas Gleich

Johann Andreas Gleich (born December 30, 1666 in Gera ; † August 1, 1734 in Dresden ) was a German Lutheran theologian and historian.

life and work

The son of the cantor and grammar school teacher Andreas Gleich and his wife Anna Dorothea Auerbach attended the grammar school in Gera from 1670 and matriculated on May 3, 1686 at the University of Wittenberg . Here he acquired the academic degree of a master's degree in philosophy on October 15, 1687 and completed his habilitation on May 10, 1688 at the Wittenberg University. On March 5, 1690 he became a deacon in Torgau and on April 1, 1696 changed to the position of 2nd court preacher at the electoral court in Dresden. In this capacity he accompanied Elector Friedrich August I when he commanded the imperial army in the Great Turkish War in Hungary. On April 13, 1707 he was promoted to 1st court preacher and in 1722 also took over the office of senior consistorial councilor. On September 4, 1724 he earned a licentiate in theology and was on 8 September of that year at the University of Wittenberg Dr. theol. PhD.

In addition to academic writings, Immediately published numerous sermons, especially funeral sermons. He became known through his biographical work on the Saxon court preachers and court preachers until his time.

family

Immediately married on April 19, 1697 in Dresden Christina Margaretha Green (* around 1680; † September 27, 1742 in Leipzig), the daughter of the former court preacher Georg Green . The marriage resulted in several sons and daughters, most of whom died young. After Gleich's death, his wife married the legal scholar Johann Florenz Rivinus . From the children we know:
