Johann Anton Tischbein

Johann Anton Tischbein (born August 28, 1720 in Haina ; † July 26, 1784 in Hamburg ) was a German painter and art teacher from the Tischbein family of artists .

Life

Tischbein was the fourth son of the hospital baker Johann Heinrich Tischbein from Haina. After only a short time in school he worked as a writer in Frankfurt am Main for some time . Later he went on his own to Paris to there the wallpaper painting to learn. Back in Frankfurt, he then also practiced the profession of wallpaper painter.

At the age of 29 he accompanied his brother Johann Heinrich Tischbein the Elder in 1749 . Ä. on his study trip to Italy . On this trip he created many sketches and watercolors, some of which he executed as oil paintings years later.

In 1766, Tischbein settled in Hamburg and founded a private drawing school there. From 1780, Tischbein was also entrusted with drawing and painting lessons at the Johanneum . Tischbein's textbook on painting , which was published in 1771 , probably contributed to this decision . Several murals of the Wandsbeker Castle were also executed by Tischbein.

At the age of almost 64 he died in Hamburg in 1784. Tischbeinstrasse in the Hamburg district of Barmbek-Nord is named after him.
