Johann Astl

Johann Astl (born July 7, 1891 in Ellmau , † November 1, 1964 in Wörgl ) was an Austrian politician ( SPÖ ) and electrician. From 1929 to 1934 he was a member of the Tyrolean state parliament and from 1945 to 1959 a member of the Austrian National Council and mayor of Wörgl.

education and profession

After elementary school, Astl graduated from a technical school and learned to be an electrical engineer. He first worked as a laborer and was subsequently employed as an electrician from 1918 to 1934. Due to his political commitment, he became unemployed in 1934 and had to serve political prison sentences in 1934 and 1935. He then found employment as an electrical foreman from 1937 to 1945. After that, Astl was employed by the Innsbruck local health insurance fund.

politics

Astl was a member of the municipal council in Wörgl between 1928 and 1934 and represented the SPÖ Tyrol from 1929 to 1934 in the Tyrolean state parliament. Due to his membership in the Social Democratic Party, he lost his political functions in the course of the Austrian Civil War in 1934. In 1945 Astl was re-elected to the local council in Wörgl, and in 1952 he became mayor of the municipality. He was also a member of the National Council from December 19, 1945 to June 9, 1959.
