Johann Balthasar Lüderwald

Johann Balthasar Lüderwald (born September 27, 1722 in Fahrland ; † August 25, 1796 in Vorsfelde ) was a German Lutheran theologian and clergyman .

Life

Lüderwald was the son of the preacher Balthasar Lüderwald (1685–1734). From 1735 to 1738 he attended the Anna-Sophianeum grammar school in Schöningen . He then went to study theology at the University of Helmstedt , where he stayed from 1739 to 1742. His studies were mainly shaped by Johann Lorenz von Mosheim . After graduating, he worked as a tutor until 1747 . In 1747 he took over the pastor's office in Glentorf .

In 1762 Lüderwald was appointed Duke Brunswick-Lüneburg superintendent and pastor primarius in Vorsfelde. In 1764, he was either from the University of Göttingen and the University of Helmstedt for doctor of theology doctorate . He remained in office until 1790 and spent his retirement in Vorsfelde.

Lüderwald was initially a supporter of the Enlightenment, including Christian Wolffs . He later turned to Lutheran Late Orthodoxy and was part of the fragments dispute . He was an opponent of Gotthold Ephraim Lessing .
