Johann Baptist Biedermann (born September 23, 1844 in Schruns ; † October 20, 1923 in Bludenz ) was a Vorarlberg dialect poet and "farmer advocate".

Life

Johann Baptist Biedermann was the son of the Taubewirt and repeated head of Schruns and attended high schools in Feldkirch , Innsbruck and Meran . This is followed by a law degree completed at the University of Innsbruck in which he in 1870 with the promotion of Dr. jur. completed. First he joined the lawyer Walter's office in Bludenz . In 1872 he had to take over the family's own Gasthof Zur Taube in Schruns from his brother for family reasons . However, he only remained a pigeon host until 1878. He worked as a timber and cattle dealer in winter and continued to work legally as a "farmer lawyer".

After his return to Bludenz, he became a member of the city council. Politically, he was certainly part of the liberal camp, as his work Freethinker Breviary, which was later banned by the National Socialists , shows. So in 1876, along with other like-minded people, he demonstratively took part in Vorarlberg's first civil funeral in Schruns.

Together with his wife, Ludwina Biedermann geb. Jochum († 1910), Biedermann was buried in the local cemetery in Schruns. The grave still exists today.

Due to the emerging tourism, his poems in local dialect spread throughout the German-speaking area.
