Johann Baptist Hauttmann
Johann Baptist Hauttmann (* 1756 in Waldthurn in the Upper Palatinate ; † February 16, 1832 in Lübeck ) was a German portrait painter and draftsman.
Life
Hauttmann came from a family of artists from the Upper Palatinate and was the fifth son of the sculptor Johann Michael Hauttmann († 1762 in Waldsassen ). From 1788 he worked as a portrait painter, first in Wechselburg , then in Dresden and Berlin. From 1795 until 1810 he took over the artistic direction of the Roddeschen wallpaper factory in Lübeck. In the course of the owner's bankruptcy he had to reorient himself and from 1810 became a drawing teacher at the Katharineum in Lübeck .
His son, the draftsman Ludwig Heinrich Matthias Hauttmann (1796–1861), attended the Prussian Academy of Arts in Berlin from 1821 to 1824 under Friedrich Wilhelm von Schadow and later also worked as a drawing teacher in Lübeck.
