Life and work
Johann Baptist Kraus was born as the eldest son of the doctor Peter Friedrich Kraus and Katharina Sebastiani in Vallendar near Koblenz . He then worked in Trier in 1831 in the church of St. Paulin , in 1833 in the parish of Bendorf and finally from June 22, 1834 until his death in the parish of Arenberg .
In Arenberg he was the founder of the Pfarrer-Kraus-Anlagen , later named after him , a landscape picture Bible, which was created from 1845 to 1860 as a nature park for religious life orientation, and of the parish and pilgrimage church of St. Nicholas, built from 1860 to 1872 . The future Empress Augusta was his patroness and supported the construction of the facilities. In the years that followed, the church and grounds made Arenberg a well-known place of pilgrimage.
The Arenberg Monastery came into being because of his efforts .
