Johann Lerzer

Johann Baptist Lerzer (born December 19, 1833 in Thannhausen ; † March 3, 1917 in Freystadt ) was a farmer, mayor and member of the German Reichstag .

Life

Lerzer attended elementary school and worked in agriculture from a young age. He was initially a community clerk and from 1863 to 1888 mayor of Thannhausen, as well as a member of the district council. In 1878 he was the founder of the horse breeding association Freystadt, as well as first chairman of the Upper Palatinate Christian Farmers Association. He was particularly committed to the establishment of a girls' school and a children's institution in Freystadt. In 1887 the railway from Neumarkt to Freystadt was opened, popularly known as the “Lerzerbahn” because of his initiative.

From 1869 to 1904 he was a member of the Bavarian Chamber of Deputies and from 1887 to 1898 he was a member of the German Reichstag for the constituency of Upper Palatinate 3 ( Neumarkt , Velburg , Hemau ) and the German Center Party .
