Johann Baptist Mayer (born October 4, 1846 in Neuenburg am Rhein , † May 19, 1903 in St. Gallen ) was a German city ​​geometer .

Johann Baptist Mayer studied mathematics at the Technical University of Karlsruhe , and he studied at the University of Heidelberg . From 1874 to 1877 he worked as an engineer for the Gotthard Railway . In 1877 he received the patent as a concordat geometer. He took over the cadastral surveys of Horn TG , Arbon and Romanshorn . In 1882 he was elected city geometer in St. Gallen and moved there with his family. He made the second official survey of the city, which made the defects of the previous survey in 1863 noticeable. Then the measurement of Thalwil and Gossau ZH took place .
