Johann Baptist Reinert (born October 31, 1790 in Oberdorf ; † March 22, 1853 in Solothurn ) was a Swiss lawyer and politician who created one of the first Swiss civil codes , that of the Canton of Solothurn .

The trained lawyer took part in the failed popular uprising against the Solothurn Restoration Government in 1814 and on the Balsthal Day in 1830 , which led to the elimination of the Solothurn Ancien Régime . From 1831 to 1837 he was president of the district court , from 1831 to 1841 (without the current separation of powers ) he was also a member of the Grand Council. From 1841 to 1853 Reinert was (again in the accumulation of offices that is unusual today in Switzerland) both a government councilor and a cantonal councilor . He made a name for himself above all as the author of one of the first, at that time still federal- cantonal, civil codes (ZGB) in Switzerland, which subsequently also served the Grand Duchy of Hesse as a model for its civil legislation .

His daughter Sophie Jent-Reinert was editor of the daily newspaper Der Bund from 1867 to 1881 after the death of her husband Hermann Jent .
