Johann Baptista von Tscharner (born March 16, 1815 in Chur ; † November 11, 1879 there ) was a Swiss lawyer and politician from the von Tscharner patrician family .

Life

After attending the city and canton school in Chur, Johann Baptista von Tscharner studied law at the Universities of Heidelberg and Munich . In 1836 he became a member of the Corps Helvetia in Heidelberg . After completing his studies, he settled in Chur as a lawyer . From 1842 to 1846 he was the state archivist for the Canton of Graubünden . In 1846 he became director of the State Chancellery, taking the central position in the cantonal administration. He held the office until 1876. He was one of the agents of the Bündner Criminal Law of 1851. From 1875 to 1877 he was President of the Plessur District Court .

As a moderate-liberal politician, he was a member of the Council of States for the Canton of Graubünden from 1875 to 1877 . He was an employee of the Bündner Tagblatt .
