Johann Benedikt Willmes

Johann Benedikt Willmes (born October 28, 1743 in Schmallenberg-Oberfleckenberg , † May 1, 1823 in Cologne ) was a lawyer, justice of the peace and university professor.

Life

Willmes attended the Benedictine school in the Grafschaft monastery . He then studied philosophy and law in Cologne and received a doctorate in law . On July 16, 1775 he married Maria Theresia Cösterus in Cologne. His son Engelbert , who would later become a painter, etcher and art collector, was born in 1786, and four years later his son Peter Ludwig, who would later become an author. The law professor at Cologne University was also a lawyer at the city of Cologne. After 52 years of teaching at the university, he was then appointed justice of the peace in Cologne. The legal writer died at the age of 79.
