Johann Beyer (astronomer)

Johann Beyer (born November 25, 1673 ; † May 10, 1751 ) was a carpenter and astronomer in Hamburg .

Johann Beyer ran a carpentry workshop on Hamburg's Baumall . He set up an astronomical observatory on the upper floor of his house . In 1722 he owned several armillary spheres and wall quadrants . He made sundials , earth and celestial globes for sale. A planetarium was also part of the offer. His work was described in articles by the Hamburg Correspondent between 1722 and 1727.

Hermann Wahn reported on the astronomical observations of Jupiter's moons and sunspots in the Hamburg state calendar .

The astronomer Johann Elert Bode wrote in 1823 that Johann Georg Büsch had proposed in 1770 that the “Steerenkiker-Huus” be retained as an observatory for the city of Hamburg, but that this failed because of the resistance of the house owner.
