Johann Caspar Altenauer (* unknown; † August 14, 1766 in Mainz ) was an electoral play captain and shield host .

Life

With the title of Kurmainzischen piece captain or captain of the artillery Altenauer was responsible for the defense of the fortress Mainz . As a Schildwirt, he was allowed to accommodate his guests and provide them with warm food all year round, in contrast to the innkeeper of a street or broom bar or a drinking room. In addition, he made a name for himself together with Johann Peter Schick through the foundation for the improvement of the school system for girls in Mainz. The age of the Enlightenment was generally shaped by reforms in the church as a whole, in society and in school and monastery politics. Through his will, the so-called Altenau School Fund was established in favor of the School of the English Misses , today the Maria Ward School . The assets consisted of a residential building from whose rental income the Mainz schools are to be funded.

Johann Caspar Altenauer died on August 14, 1766 in Mainz. Altenauergasse (located in Mainz ) in the old town of Mainz is named after him.
