Johann Caspar Häfeli
Johann Caspar Häfeli (born May 1, 1754 in Basadingen-Schlattingen in the canton of Thurgau (Switzerland); † April 4, 1811 in Ballenstedt ) was a Swiss theologian and teacher.
Life
Häfeli was the son of a pastor. He graduated from the Collegium Carolinum in Zurich . His relationship with the Reformed pastor, philosopher and writer Johann Caspar Lavater stems from this time . In 1784 he became court chaplain and in 1792 consistorial councilor at the court of the principality of Anhalt-Dessau .
From 1793 to 1805 he was a preacher at the St. Ansgarii Church in Bremen . In 1798, together with Johann Ludwig Ewald , he wrote the work Presentation to Bremen's patriotic and noble-minded citizens concerning the establishment of a citizens' school , a work of reform influenced in the spirit of Pestalozzi . From 1802 to 1805 he was also professor of theology at the illustrious grammar school in Bremen.
In 1805 he became superintendent and chief preacher in Bernburg in Saxony-Anhalt .
