Chuck Marohnic

Chuck Marohnic is an American jazz - pianist , composer , arranger, university lecturer and author.

Chuck Marohnic played at the beginning of his career as a sideman with Joe Henderson , Ira Sullivan , Buddy Rich , Chet Baker ; worked with Klaus Ignatzek , Lyle Lovett and Joey Sellers as well as a church musician and arranger of piano arrangements of church hymns and hymns.

He also recorded several albums under his own name, as a soloist, in a trio line-up and with guest musicians such as Bennie Wallace , David Friesen , Steve Gilmore , Bill Goodwin and Joe LaBarbera for Steeplechase Records and the Dutch label Challenge .

Marohnic was a professor and director of jazz studies at Arizona State University from 1981 to 2003 ; former students of his were u. a. John Medeski and the rock guitarist Scott Henderson . He wrote four books on Jazz, How to Create Jazz Chord Progressions , 12 Keys to Jazz Concepts , 50 Practical Pro Tips, and Jazz Keyboard Study , which have been published by Advance Music Publishers . As a music teacher he took part in numerous festivals and workshops in Germany, Brazil and France. The video The Creation of a Solo Jazz Piano Arrangement was made in Brazil . Chuck Marohnic also worked with the Bulgarian National Youth Symphony Orchestra in 2000.

As a composer, Chuck Marohnic wrote music for piano arrangements and three pieces for wind quintet. More recently, a jazz piano and orchestra concerto entitled Desert Spirit was created , which premiered with the Arizona State University Symphony Orchestra .
