Johann Christian Aycke

Johann Christian Aycke (born September 7, 1766 in Danzig , Prussia ; † December 23, 1854 there ) was a German administrative officer and natural scientist.

Life

Aycke studied law at the University of Göttingen and had also attended lectures by the physicist Georg Christoph Lichtenberg (1742–1799). He later became a city councilor in Gdansk.

He had leased the right to collect amber on the beach in Gdansk for 14 years and summarized his knowledge of amber, his experiences and findings in a book that appeared in 1835. In the following years he developed a scientific interest in the geomorphology and natural history of Pomerania and Western Pomerania . He was a member of the Natural Science Society in Gdansk .

Aycke was a cousin of the Prussian judicial council in Danzig Paul Henrich Zernecke (1771-1850).
