Johann Christian Carsten Meyn

Johann Christian Carsten Meyn (born August 29, 1810 in Hamburg ; † February 9, 1899 in Carlshütte near Rendsburg ) was a German technician , draftsman and lithographer .

Life

Johann Christian Carsten Meyn was born in Hamburg as the son of a wine merchant. After attending a private school and the Johanneum , he completed an apprenticeship in a commercial company. He continued his self-study in the technical field and carried out study trips to England.

In 1837 Meyn founded a machine factory with steam boiler production and iron foundry in St. Georg , which supplied to industrial companies and railway companies. Customers included the Berlin-Hamburg Railway and the Friedrich-Franz Railway . Meyn closed the factory in 1854 and opened a technical office in which he worked as an engineer. In 1861 he became technical director of the Carlshütte near Rendsburg. He remained in this position until 1880.

Meyn served in the Hamburg citizen military . In 1841 he was a lieutenant in the 4th company and in 1842 a first lieutenant in the 5th company of the 2nd battalion. In 1843 he was captain of the 3rd company of the 7th battalion and in 1848 became a major of this battalion. As a member of the citizen's military, he was involved in the fire in Hamburg in 1842 and in 1848 helped suppress the unrest against the gate lock on the Lämmermarkt in front of the stone gate .

Meyn was a member of the fire fund deputation from 1850 to 1861 and a member of the city water art deputation from 1860 to 1861. He was a member of the Hamburg Constituent Assembly and was a member of the Hamburg Parliament from 1859 to 1861 .

Meyn was also a talented draftsman and lithographer, from whom landscapes, local views and architectural drawings from Hamburg and the Hamburg area all the way to Lübeck have survived, especially from the 1830s.

Johann Christian Carsten Meyn was married to Emma Knoph, the daughter of the Hamburg mint master , on December 1, 1838 .
