Life
Johann Christian Josef Ommerborn was the oldest of five children of the businessman Johann Carl Ommerborn and his wife Gertrud, b. Backhausen. As a factory worker, he joined various social democratic and anarchist groups and worked as a journalist . In 1885 he married the actress Antonie Strauch, five years his senior, with whom he had a child that same year. Ommerborn lived in Barmen and Körne near Dortmund ; Among other things, he was the publisher of the magazine Der Freie Dichter, published in Barmen, in 1894 and from 1902 to 1907 editor-in-chief of the magazine Der Natur-, Haus- und Volksarzt . From 1906 he was based in Frankfurt am Main , from 1908 in Emmendingen in Baden , in Schaffhausen and finally again in Barmen. Between 1905 and 1907 he published a number of detective and sensational novels , most of which appeared under pseudonyms and in colportage publishers. After Ommerborn broke away from anarchism and, according to his own statement, had belonged to the Reformed Church since 1910 , he was involved in the last phase of his life in the Barmer Landstrasse Mission , which saw its task in the material and spiritual care of the non-residents . Ommerborn was the head of this organization and also published the quarterly journals for Landstrasse Mission , and he continued to work as a writer .
Johann Christian Josef Ommerborn's literary work consists mainly of novels and short stories . Apart from his colportage novels, he mainly deals with Christian and social topics, often from his homeland in the mountains .
