Johann Christoph Freiherr Adelmann von Adelmannsfelden (born April 23, 1640 in Hohenstadt ; † August 26, 1687 in Ellwangen ) was a provost of the prince provost of Ellwangen .

Life

He came from the Swabian imperial knight family of the Adelmann von Adelmannsfelden , the ministerial family of the Ellwangen monastery . His parents were the convert Wilhelm Christoph Adelmann von Adelmannsfelden , Lord of Hohenstadt , Schechingen and Leinweiler (* 1606, † 1659), and his second wife Maria Magdalena, nee Freiin von Rechberg zu Hohenrechberg (* 1614, † 1669). He was the oldest son.

In 1651 he was enrolled at the Jesuit College in Dillingen , where in 1657 his dissertation was devoted to the subject of “De anima” (on the soul ). On November 24, 1654 he received a canonical in Ellwangen. In 1655 he became canon in Augsburg; In 1662 he was ordained a subdiaconate there . In the same year he became capitular in Ellwangen . In 1666 he is proven as dean in Ellwangen. On June 4, 1667 he was ordained a priest in Augsburg and the following year he was elected administrator of the prince provost in Ellwangen . On behalf of the Augsburg prince-bishop, he traveled to Mainz in January and again in October 1670 on diplomatic matters . From August 19, 1671 he officiated as cathedral dean in Augsburg and resigned to the dean in Ellwangen in October. On April 18, 1674 he was elected in Ellwangen as Johann Christoph IV. As prince provost; in the same year he resigned to the Augsburg cathedral deanery. Tradition has it that he was very pious; in 1677, as provost, he built a private chapel in Ellwang Castle . On February 14, 1680 he was raised to the status of imperial baron.

In 1682 he received a canonical at Eichstätter Cathedral and in 1684 he became domicellar. He died three years later in Ellwangen and was buried in the Loreto Chapel of the Schönenberg Church on Schönenberg.

estate

He bequeathed his library of almost 6,000 volumes, as well as his astronomical equipment, to the Ellwangen chapter.
