Johann Conrad Wepfer

Johann Conrad Wepfer (born July 7, 1657 in Schaffhausen , Switzerland ; † June 1711 ) was a Swiss doctor and member of the " Leopoldina " academy of scholars .

Life

Johann Conrad Wepfer was the son of Johann Jakob Wepfer (1620–1695), who was also a member of the Leopoldina. Johann Conrad Wepfer studied medicine in Basel and Leyden and was later a city physician in Schaffhausen.

On February 5, 1694, Johann Conrad Wepfer, nicknamed Melampus, was accepted as a member ( matriculation number 206 ) in the Leopoldina. Melampus was famous in ancient Greece as a seer and doctor.
