Johann Elias Bach
Johann Elias Bach (born February 12, 1705 in Schweinfurt ; † November 30, 1755 ibid) was a German composer from the Bach family .
Life
After studying theology at the University of Jena , he stayed from 1737 to 1742 as a tutor and secretary with his cousin Johann Sebastian Bach in Leipzig . His letters from this period are important sources on JS Bach's life. From 1743 he worked as a cantor in Schweinfurt, with which he held the most important musical position in the city, like his grandfather Georg Christoph Bach before him . The two years of church cantatas composed by him , which were highly praised by his contemporaries, have been lost.
Johann Elias Bach was married twice. The first marriage with Johanna Rosina Fritsch remained childless. Shortly after her death, on January 25, 1746, he married Anna Maria Hüller, with whom he had four children.
