Johann Elias Greifenhahn

Johann Elias Greifenhahn , also Johann Elias Greiffenhahn (* 1687 in Salzungen , † August 4, 1749 in Jena ) was a German university professor .

Life

Johann Elias Greifenhahn was the son of a shoemaker .

He attended school in Coburg and showed a great talent for the new languages.

In 1710 he began studying philosophy at the University of Jena ; there he received his master's degree in 1716 and then gave language lessons in Italian , French and English at the university . Among his students was the theologian Johann Rudolph Anton Piderit .

He published three grammars for the languages ​​he taught that his students could use to help them learn the language. The grammars were so successful that they were published several times in the following years. His English grammar was one of the most widely used textbooks for teaching English.
