Johann Emanuel Schleich

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Johann Emanuel Schleich (* around 1684 in Tübingen ; † 1729 there ) was a painter from Württemberg . He was the father of the Tübingen painter Johann Gabriel Schleich (1710–1743).

Life

Johann Emanuel Schleich was a son of the Tübingen constable and painter Johann Heinrich Schleich (around 1651–1715), from whom he was also trained as a painter. He mainly worked as a portrait painter. Among other things, his customers had to include members of the university because he had "academic citizenship". Nothing can be said about these portraits because no signed picture is known.

In a joint letter with Johann Gottfried Schreiber and Johann Glocker in 1717, Schleich complained to the university senate about Johann Christoph Kayßer that he was staying in Tübingen without authorization and that they were taking away the scarce work they were already doing in Tübingen.

In addition to the portraits, Schleich also painted religious pictures, e.g. B. for the Tübingen Castle Church.
