Johann Ernst Neubauer (* 1742 in Gießen ; † January 30, 1777 in Jena ) was a German doctor and anatomist .

Live and act

Johann Ernst Neubauer initially studied languages, mathematics and the art of drawing. In Strasbourg he turned to anatomy under Johann Friedrich Lobstein . In 1767 Neubauer returned to Gießen and received his doctorate in medicine. Ernst Gottfried Baldinger called him to Jena to take over from the sick anatomy professor Karl Friedrich Kaltschmied . An illness of his own delayed Neubauer's move to Jena until after Easter 1770. After Kaltschmied's death, he was appointed full professor of anatomy in autumn, but was not able to start teaching until 1772 due to further lung bleeding . Just five years later, Neubauer succumbed to his illness. In 1770 he was elected a member of the Leopoldina .
