Johann Friedrich Lobstein (medic, 1736)

Johann Friedrich Lobstein (the elder), also Jean Frédéric Lobstein (born May 30, 1736 in Lampertheim / Alsace , † October 11, 1784 in Strasbourg ), was a German surgeon and anatomist .

Johann Friedrich's father was a surgeon , his brother the theologian Johann Michael Lobstein (1740–1794) and his nephew the pathologist Johann Friedrich Lobstein .

In 1760 he received his doctorate at the University of Strasbourg with the dissertation De nervo spinali ad par vagum accessorio . After a trip through Holland and France and his habilitation in Strasbourg, he became a demonstrator in anatomy in 1764 and a full professor of anatomy and surgery at the University of Strasbourg in 1768.

One of the listeners of his lectures was the poet Goethe , who acquired his first knowledge of anatomy from him .
