Johann Ferdinand Jansen (* 1758 in Weisweiler ; † January 6, 1834 in Aachen ) was a German painter and local poet . His activity included history and landscape painting .

Life

The son of the painter Heinrich Jansen first attended elementary school in Weisweiler near Düren . A few years later the family moved to Aachen, where he attended the Kaiser-Karls-Gymnasium . Characterized by his father and his friendship with Heinrich Franz Carl Billotte , painting also became a profession for Ferdinand. According to the custom of the time, Jansen decorated entire rooms with landscapes. Around 1782/83 he married Theresia Pickenkamp from Aachen († around 1807/8).

In addition to his painting, Jansen increasingly occupied himself with the Aachen dialect, the ( Öcher Platt ), and translated it into writing. Since he was not a native of Aachen, his literary works are useless for dialect research and comparative literature . In addition, for many years he was honorary church master at the St. Nicholas Church in Aachen .

His gouache painting Prospect d'Aix la Chapelle, du Côté de Borcette from 1796 illustrates the marching gate . It is questionable whether the two parallel walls in front of the gouache picture are parts of the outer bailey , which were only discovered on May 11, 2011 during road works, equivalent to the bridge defense corridor of the Ponttor . Jansen probably shifted them topographically to reflect their existence.
