Life and family environment

Johann Ferdinand von Stechow came from the Kotzen line of his native noble family from the Brandenburg region, who lived in West Havelland . He was born in January 1718 on his father's Kotzen estate , which had been in the family's possession from the 14th century until the land reform in the Soviet occupation zone in 1945. His parents were the Kgl. prussia. Colonel and General Director of the Prussian. Army Friedrich Wilhelm von Stechow (1692–1771), landlord of Kotzen and Stechow II and holder of the order Pour le Merite , and Marie Elisabeth von Brösigke (1697–1757). He died on March 18, 1778 in Breslau . He was married since April 29, 1772 to Johanna Countess von Sandreczky and Sandraschütz (1746–1789). The marriage resulted in a son Ferdinand Friedrich von Stechow (1774-1854), who later became district administrator of the Löwenberg district .

Military career

Johann Ferdinand von Stechow chose, as is usual for a young nobleman, the soldier profession. In the third Silesian War he advanced to the rank of major in the Prince of Prussia regiment until 1758. In this regiment he distinguished himself in such a way that his superior Lieutenant Colonel Count von Lottum suggested to King Friedrich II to award him the Order pour le merite and to promote him at the same time. With the highest cabinet order of August 30, 1758, King Lottum's proposal followed. In the AKO of August 30, 1758 it says :, .... On your letter of 29th d. I have those majors of Stechow ....... konferieret the Order pour le Merite in respect of their good behavior, even the Mir of you proposed advancement ...... placidieret ... . Johann Ferdinand von Stechow rose further in the following period. He became colonel and commander of the von Stechow infantry regiment (No. 29) and ended his military career with the rank of lieutenant general. The king was favored by him and awarded him various honorary offices. So he was appointed governor of Driesen and made prelate of the Kolberg cathedral monastery . Finally the king awarded him the highest Prussian order, the Order of the Black Eagle . After the wars, Stechow acquired the Arnoldsmühle (Breslau district) and Blumenrode (Neumarkt district) estates in Silesia , which he managed until his death in 1778.
