Friedrich Wilhelm von Stechow

Friedrich Wilhelm von Stechow (* July 7, 1692 in Stechow ; † February 19, 1771 ibid) was a Prussian colonel and general manager of the army, bearer of the order Pour le Mérite .

Life

His parents were Anton Ferdinand Kaspar von Stechow (* December 31, † October 1, 1701) and his wife Adelheit Sophie von Werder (* April 24, 1663; † January 21, 1711) from the Brettin family. Major General Christoph Ludwig von Stechow (1698–1772) was his brother.

Friedrich Wilhelm von Stechow was hereditary lord on Kotzen , which had been in the family's possession since the 14th century and remained until 1945, and on Stechow II. Both estates were in Westhavelland. He was married to Elisabeth von Brösigke (1697–1759) from 1715 . His son was the Royal Prussian Lieutenant General Johann Ferdinand von Stechow (1718–1778), also a bearer of the order Pour le Mérite

Military career

Although Friedrich Wilhelm von Stechow was a wealthy landowner , he chose the profession of officer. He served himself from the bottom up and proved himself in the Silesian Wars of Frederick the Great , especially in the Second Silesian War . Friedrich paid tribute to his services after the end of the war when he awarded the then lieutenant colonel in the Kleist regiment on foot with the order Pour le Mérite on May 27, 1747. Friedrich Wilhelm von Stechow continued to serve in the Prussian army, was promoted to colonel and finally took over the post of general manager of the army. After retiring from active service, he retired to his estates and died there in 1771 on the Stechow family estate.
