Christoph Ludwig von Stechow

Christoph Ludwig von Stechow (born January 8, 1698 at Gut Kotzen ; † November 18, 1772 ibid) was a Prussian major general , chief of Dragoon Regiment No. 9 and heir to Kotzen.

Life

origin

His parents were Anton Ferdinand Kaspar von Stechow (* December 31, 1666 - October 1, 1701) and his wife Adelheid Sophie, born von Werder (* April 24, 1663 - January 21, 1711) from the Brettin family. Colonel Friedrich Wilhelm von Stechow (1692–1771) was his brother.

Military career

Stechow came in 1713 as a flag junior in the "Dönhoff" regiment and in 1715 became a cornet in the "Wartensleben" cuirassier regiment. He took part in the Pomeranian campaign in 1715/1716 and was in the siege of Stralsund . In 1717 he became a lieutenant and in 1719 joined the body regiment . There he was given his own company in 1723 as Rittmeister . Friedrich II appointed him major in 1741 and sent him in 1743 as a volunteer to the Austrian army with which he took part in the battle of Braunau on May 9, 1743 . During the Second Silesian War he was able to distinguish himself in the battle of Kesselsdorf . In the Battle of Leuthen he defeated the rearguard and made many prisoners.

In 1745 Stechow became a colonel and in 1755 major general and chief of the "Nassau" dragoon regiment. In 1758, because of his poor health, he applied for dismissal, which was accepted. He then retired to his Kotzen estate and died there in 1772.

Stechow married Wilhelmine Juliane von Trotha (born January 29, 1711 - June 14, 1786) from the House of Hechlingen on February 25, 1732 . He had several children:
