Johann Fischer, the angel collector

Johann Fischer , (born November 4, 1934 in Kürten , † May 30, 2012 in Bergisch Gladbach ) was a German collector who assembled a very large collection of angels .

Life

Johann Fischer lived in Engeldorf , a district in Kürten. For many years he was president of the carnival club KCK 5067 Blau-Gold Kürten , which dissolved in 2011. In 1985 he had such a serious accident in his car that he had to be hospitalized. His daughter visited him in the evening and brought him a guardian angel, which he later hung in his car. There was also the saying: “Do not drive faster than your guardian angel can fly.” That was the reason for him to put together a large collection of angels from that point on.

The angel collection

At all flea and flea markets, antique dealers and every other opportunity he went looking for angels of all kinds in a frenzy. These were dolls, carvings, cast metal angels, clocks as angels, pictures, paintings and so on . In 2012 the collection counted 12,642 copies. In doing so, she had achieved a world record that was entered in the Guinness Book of Records .

He later looked for a partner who could take over and continue the collection. In 2009 the collection was handed over to the Engelskirchen community . It was assumed that there were around 15,000 angels. The new First German Angel Museum in Engelskirchen opened there on November 20, 2015 .
