Franz Toenniges

Franz Toenniges (born September 27, 1923 in Frankenstein in Silesia ; † April 19, 2008 in Kürten ) was a German calligrapher , graphic artist and local researcher .

Life

Toenniges attended the Collegium Seraphicum in Neisse and the Matthias Gymnasium in Breslau in his Silesian homeland . After the expulsion , he continued his training in graphics, calligraphy and heraldry at the Cologne factory schools in 1946 . He then initially worked as a commercial artist in Switzerland . He soon started working in foreign advertising at Bayer AG . Since 1976 he lived with his wife Käthe in Kürten. She died in 2004. Both had a daughter, who died at the age of eleven.

Toenniges had decreed in his will that his entire estate should go to the therapeutic educational children's village Biesfeld , foundation Die gute Hand .

His life was accompanied by numerous exhibitions, the creation of greeting cards and calligraphic single sheets and support on various occasions, such as B. at the writing circle in the cultural heritage Cologne Cathedral, the letter of honorary citizenship for the composer Karlheinz Stockhausen , or the laying of the foundation stone certificate of the Katholikentagssiedlung in Longerich .
