Johann Franz Würzl

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Johann Franz Würzl (born January 27, 1885 in Vienna ; † January 1, 1951 there ) was an Austrian architect .

Life

Würzl attended the Higher State Trade School in Vienna, which he graduated in 1903. He then studied from 1904 to 1906 and then again in 1910/11 at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna with Otto Wagner . In the years in between, he was involved in the large urban development project for the construction of the Drasche Park as an employee. After the First World War he changed his name from Würzel to Würzl . In the inter-war period and after the war, he built a number of municipal buildings for the city of Vienna, although it is unclear whether he was employed by the Viennese city building authority or whether he was a freelancer.

meaning

Although only a few buildings by Johann Würzl are documented, these show a stylistic contrast to the contemporary expressionistic and pathetic residential complexes of the City of Vienna. His buildings have a classicist clarity, sober, mostly ornament-free and have cubic bay windows and balconies as design forms.
