Johann Gedrat

Johann Gedrat (born March 3, 1883 in Gintschaiten ; † May 9, 1915 at Lombartzyde ) was a German gymnastics teacher.

Life

Johann Gedrat taught at today's elementary school Albert Schweitzer School in Hannover-Linden . On his initiative, the first gymnastics facility was built in Linden.

Gedrat was from 1901 to 1903 first chairman of the swimming club "Neptun" from 1895 (which in 1919 in the Hanoverian swimming club from 1892 ).

Gedrat was one of the leading personalities in German swimming before the First World War and from 1913 until his death in 1915 he succeeded Fritz Droemer as the swimming supervisor of the German Swimming Association . Johann Gedrat died in 1915 as a soldier in the First World War near Lombardtzyde at the age of 32 .

Honors

The Gedrathof in Hanover-Bothfeld , established in 1978, honors the teacher and athlete with its name.
