Johann Georg Beckhof

Johann Georg Beckhof (born July 9, 1661 in Stade ; † August 21, 1747 ) was a German lawyer.

Life

Beckhof first attended school in his hometown of Stade, but switched to high school in Hamburg because of the war unrest in 1675 . In 1681 he moved to the University of Helmstedt to study law . Because of the spread of the plague, he later went to Frankfurt (Oder) , where he stayed until 1684. In 1685 he was in Utrecht , in 1685 in Leiden . After a trip to England and France, he completed his studies in 1687 with a doctorate as Dr. jur. from. In the same year he established himself as a lawyer in Stade, was appointed full professor at the royal courts in 1688, Commissarius Fisci in 1708, and in 1721 royal judicial advisor and court judge. From 1738 he was a member of the consistory in Stade.

Beckhof translated Pierre Poiret's “The Wisdom of the Righteous” into German. The spread of the work led to the demand for the removal of Pastor Johann Heinrich Horb in Hamburg.
