Johann Georg Engelhard

Johann Georg Engelhard (born October 8, 1747 in Scheßlitz ; † October 17, 1827 in Aschaffenburg ) was a lawyer in Kurmainz and in the Grand Duchy of Frankfurt and President of the Estates Assembly of the Grand Duchy of Frankfurt in 1810.

Life

Johann Georg Engelhard was born as the son of the administrator Franz Xaver Engelhard and his wife Elisabeth. He studied law and became an auditor at the Mainz appeal court. Then he was a member of the electoral court council and state government college on the scholar's bench with the title of a secret court and government council. Until 1790 he was the censor of the printed writings. In 1803 he entered the service of the prince-prince Karl Theodor von Dalberg and was prince-primate privy councilor and director (later: president) of the Aschaffenburg Higher Appeal Court from 1803 to 1813.

In 1810 he was elected for the department of Aschaffenburg and the group of scholars and artists in the Estates Assembly of the Grand Duchy of Frankfurt. Grand Duke Carl appointed him President of Parliament and on October 26, 1810 awarded him the title of Councilor of State . This title is to be understood as an honorary designation. According to the Constitution of the Grand Duchy of Frankfurt , the Council of State is the government of the Grand Duchy. This did not belong to Johann Georg Engelhard.
