Johann Georg unrest
Johann Georg Unrest , also Unruh or Unrueh (born April 14/15, 1724 in Passau ; † October 3, 1801 there ) was a German church painter.
Unrest was born as the seventh child of the Fürstlich-Passau box host Franz Unruh and his wife Maria Katharina in Passau in 1724. He was a student of the church painter Franz Lichtenreiter . After his apprenticeship, he went to Brixen as a journeyman , where he helped Paul Troger to create the ceiling fresco in Brixen Cathedral in 1748/49 .
After his return to Passau, Unruhe made numerous altarpieces and ceiling frescoes in the Lower Bavarian region and in the Innviertel . Among his best known are the altarpieces in the churches of Breitenberg , Dommelstadl , Hutthurm , Reichersberg and Suben as well as the ceiling fresco of the New Residence in Passau.
On January 21, 1784 he was appointed councilor of the city of Passau.
