Live and act

Johann Gottfried Häntzschel was born on October 8, 1707 in Seifhennersdorf, the son of a preacher . Studied at the University of Wittenberg from 1726 , then at the University of Leipzig , he worked as a catechist . He then acted as a preacher in Zittau and died at the age of 40 on February 5, 1748.

Häntzschel made himself known through a polemic against the third edition of Christian Gottlieb Marche's collection of sacred and lovely songs . He demonstrated that there were ambiguous and questionable formulations in the songs.

In addition, it was said that Häntzschel wrote hymns himself, although the ADB's author was not aware of any Häntzschel hymn, so that he concluded that the songs composed by Häntzschel were included in hymn books, but not distributed further.
