Johann Heinrich Christian Barby
Johann Heinrich Christian Barby (born November 19, 1765 in Ermsleben , † March 25, 1837 in Berlin ) was a German teacher and classical philologist .
Life
Johann Heinrich Christian Barby studied at the University of Halle with Johann Salomo Semler .
In 1790 he became a member of the seminar for learned schools in Berlin and was from 1794 to 1797 senior teacher at the royal pedagogy of the Realschule Berlin. In 1797 he became a professor at the royal Friedrich-Wilhelms-Gymnasium in Berlin and from 1808 he worked as a professor for Latin at the military academy .
Memberships
Barby was a member of the Pedagogical Society that existed between 1790 and 1806 and was based at the Berlinisch-Köllnischen Gymnasium zum Grauen Kloster .
Before 1815 he joined the Berlin Society of Friends of Humanity , founded in 1797 , and was also a member of the chess club from 1803 , the first association of chess players in Germany with a statute.
