Johann Heinrich Gleser

Johann Heinrich Gleser (born June 27, 1734 in Basel ; † February 16, 1773 there ; reformed ; resident in Basel) was a Swiss lawyer and historian .

life and work

Johann Heinrich Gleser, son of a baker, studied law at the University of Basel . From 1759 to 1763 he gave lectures on the history of Switzerland at the same university. In 1760 he applied unsuccessfully for the Basel chair for natural and international law . For this purpose he published a treatise on the confederations' alliances and was the first to edit the Federal Letter of 1291 in the appendix . Gleser later took over his father's bakery and was elected to the guild board in 1763.
