Marc Sieber (historian)

Marc Sieber (born December 23, 1927 in Basel ; † November 5, 2010 ibid) was a Swiss historian , politician ( LDP / LPS ) and director of Sandoz .

Life

Marc Sieber, son of Eduard, grammar school principal, and Ruth, b. of Gabain , studied history in Basel , Geneva and London and in 1952 with the thesis The afterlife of Alemanni in Swiss history doctorate . From 1953 to 1958 Sieber worked on the edition of the Basel University matrikel with.

From 1958 he built up the publicity department at Sandoz . In 1961 he completed his habilitation at the University of Basel, where he became an associate professor for history in 1966. At Sandoz he was HR manager from 1969 to 1981 , and from 1981 to 1987 he was again responsible for public relations. He became known throughout Switzerland in connection with the chemical accident in Schweizerhalle in 1986 and retired in 1987. From 1976 to 1984 Sieber was a member of the Grand Council of the Canton of Basel-Stadt .

From 1988 to 1996 he was a member of the Board of Trustees of the Historical Lexicon of Switzerland and was responsible for personnel and finances. Sieber was a member of the Board of Trustees of the Jacob Burckhardt Foundation from 1988 to 2009 and was its President from 1991 to 2008.

Marc Sieber was born in 1960 with Christine. Meier, daughter of the Ciba director Rolf Meier , married.
