Johann Heinrich Simon the Elder

Johann Heinrich Simon the Elder (born January 24, 1641 in Hamburg ; † April 3, 1713 in Hamburg) was a lawyer and municipal lawyer in Hamburg.

Johann Heinrich Simon the Elder was the son of Franz Simon the Elder, preacher to St. George. After completing his theology studies in Jena in 1663 , he studied law and obtained his doctorate in both rights in Strasbourg in 1667 . After traveling through Germany , Italy , France and England , he settled in Hamburg in 1670 as a lawyer, where he had been the city councilor since January 4, 1689 and was twice sent as envoy to the imperial court in Vienna : in 1690 for the election of Archduke Joseph to the German-Roman king and in 1695 because of the disputes regarding the Glückstadt customs.

His first marriage was on June 15, 1674 with Elisabeth Maria, daughter of the mayor Broderus Pauli, who remained childless. His second marriage was in 1693 with Gertrud (1675-1731), daughter of the mayor Heinrich Meurer . He had three children with her:

  1. Johann Heinrich (1696–1763), lawyer and councilor in Hamburg
  2. Anna Elisabeth (1701–1738), married in 1721 to the dean of Holtze
  3. Johann Peter (1709–1761), JUD, senior of the cathedral chapter, remained unmarried.
