Johann II. (Liegnitz)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Johann II of Liegnitz (* 1477 ; † March 6, 1495 ) was Duke of Liegnitz . He came from the Liegnitz branch of the Silesian Piasts .

Life

His parents were Duke Friedrich I († 1488) and Ludmilla († 1503), a daughter of the Bohemian King George of Podebrady .

After the early death of their father, Johann and his younger brothers Friedrich II and Georg I grew up under the tutelage of their mother. Johann did not get the inheritance to which he was entitled as the eldest son, as he died in 1495 unmarried and without descendants. The reign of the Duchy of Liegnitz took over in 1499 the second-born Friedrich II, who at the same time administered the Brieger share of the youngest brother Georg I until 1505 .
